The Dakota Zoo located on the Missouri River in Bismarck, North Dakota first opened to the public in June of 1961. At the time the zoo first opened it featured 75 animals on about 15 acres of land. It has since grown to include over 600 animals and the zoo now attracts over 100,000 visitors each year.
