Tybee Island Lighthouse and Museum Coupons and Discounts

The first structure built on Tybee Island was a day-mark (a lighthouse without a light) which was built in 1736. A storm swept away this structure in 1741 and a new structure was erected in 1742. The sea began to overtake the second structure by the 1760’s so a new structure was completed in 1773. By 1791 this day-mark was converted into a lighthouse. In 1861, retreating confederate troops set fire to the structure destroying a large part of it. After the civil war, the top half of the lighthouse was rebuilt and this is the structure which stands today.
