George Barber, a former race car driver began collecting motorcycles in 1988. His goal was to build the best and largest collection of vintage motorcycles. In 1994, he established the Barber Vintage Motorsports museum and in 1995 the museum opened to the public in its original location in South Birmingham.
The current museum is home to over 1,600 motorcycles and more than 950 of those bikes can be seen on any given day. There are over 200 different manufacturers from 20 countries are represented in the collection
